"When A Girl" – in ihrem neuen Song ärgert sich CARYS, was sie als Frau alles sein und nicht sein soll
Am Freitag ist mit "To Anyone Like Me" CARYS’ Debüt-EP bei Warner Music erschienen – sechs modern produzierte Popsongs mit klugen, selbstbewussten Texten, wie man sie schon in den vorab veröffentlichten Songs "Princesses Don’t Cry", "No More" und "Crush" hören konnte. Zur Veröffentlichung gibt es die neue Single-Auskopplung "When A Girl" samt Video – siehe unten.
"Honestly, I can’t be all that you want", ist die Kanadierin in dem Song genervt von den an sie gestellten Erwartungen in einer Beziehung, die sie nie erfüllen kann, denn: "I’m too little, too much / When a girl is good, she’s just never good enough / I’m too smart if I drink / I’m too drunk if I drink / I’m too boring when I’m sober / I give up", singt sie, und gibt ihrem Prinzen den Laufpass: "I don’t fit into your mould / If you want you can call somebody else / Or do it by yourself".
"Boys will be boys, but girls can’t be girls", heißt es an einer Stelle des Songs, der damit das wichtige und zeitgemäße Thema des Female Empowerment verarbeitet. CARYS kommentiert zu dem Song: "The lyrics reference binary people, but the message of the song is universal. We aren’t defined by what we seem to be on the surface. Nobody is so one dimensional. I tried to make a point of this in the video by embodying a few of the different boxes that I personally get put into either by myself or others. Sensitive, bossy, weird, tomboy, immature and so on. I am all of those things sometimes, but I'm also so much more than that."
