Matchbox Twenty veröffentlichen ihr erstes neues Album seit 2012 und klären die Frage "Where The Light Goes"

Nach über zehn Jahren kann man sich heute über ein neues Album von Matchbox Twenty freuen. "Where The Light Goes" heißt es, hat insgesamt 12 Tracks zu bieten und strotzt nur so vor Energie. Wo also geht das Licht hin? Es ist direkt in diese Songs geflossen, von denen Frontmann Rob Thomas hofft, dass sie bei den Menschen genauso nachhaltigen Eindruck hinterlassen wie die bisherigen Hits der Band: "One of the best things about this job is how fortunate and lucky we are to still be here. These songs have been a part of people’s lives. They’ve been in weddings, they’ve become tattoos, and they’re the soundtrack to Saturday nights and Sunday mornings. My only real hope is for more people to let this album be part of their lives. To me, it’s the greatest compliment.”
Im Vorfeld hatte die Band bereits die Tracks "Wild Dogs (Running in a Slow Dream)" und "Don't Get Me Wrong" veröffentlicht. Weitere Highlights des Albums sind "Rebels", ein bewährtes Live-Stück, das sich perfekt in den hymnischen Katalog der Band einfügt, und "Queen of New York City", ein berührender, persönlicher Song, der Thomas' Songwriting in den Vordergrund stellt. Er sagt über den Track: "This is the most personal song on the record for me. I wrote this with Eric Arjes and Jeffrey East. My wife has been going through a lot of health problems for many years and I thought about how strong she was and how resilient she was and I had this image of an almost Don Quixote, like figure of a woman and because she was a born and bred New Yorker, I placed her in New York City and imagined her chasing the windmills that were the buildings. I guess it’s about how to be really strong in the face of certain things you have to be a little bit delusional to make it through." Unten kann man die Tracks anhören.
Matchbox Twenty haben bis heute weltweit über 40 Millionen Tonträger verkauft,mehrere Grammy-Nominierungen erhalten und vor Millionen von Fans auf allen Kontinenten gespielt. Ihr letztes Album "North" erschien 2012 – und bis vor einiger Zeit ging die Band nicht davon aus, dass sie überhaupt noch einmal ein neues Album veröffentlichen würden. Doch dann kam alles anders, wie sie in einem aktuellen Interview mit Billboard berichten.
Sag niemals nie! 2023 klingt die Band auf ihrem kommenden Album „Where The Light Goes“ erfrischt wie eh und je und profitiert dabei auch von den jeweiligen Solo-Reisen der Musiker, darunter natürlich auch Frontmann Rob Thomas, der fünf Soloalben veröffentlichte und u. a. drei Grammy Awards, den allerersten Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award und zwei Billboard "Songwriter of the Year"-Auszeichnungen gewann.
